Spread the word!
June 17th – 18th Workshop
Our next workshop will be on Thursday, June 17th and Friday, June 18th at Cape Fear Community College along with a brief “field trip” to the Burgwin-Wright House. Dr. Joanne Freeman from Yale University will be our content presenter. Everyone should now have a copy of her book Affairs of Honor. Hopefully as things begin to wind down at school, you may find some time to read this fascinating account of early American politics!
Discussion Requirement (Online and Face-to-Face Option)
Please don’t forget to complete your 50 online hours by June 15th. On May 15th, I will send an update on hours completed to each participant so you can plan accordingly for the last month of discussion.
Several small face-to-face groups have been organized. If you are interested in joining one, see the discussion thread on the Blackboard site or email Cara (cara_ward@pender.k12.nc.us) and I will get you in touch with others.
Lesson Plans
The last lesson plan is due to Thomas and Suzanne as of today, April 30th. Please email your lessons to tmassey@cfcc.edu and ssmith@cfcc.edu. Lesson plans can cover any topic in American History in the date range of 1607-1818. A few of you have asked if your lessons could extend a little beyond this time period. Since our goal is for you to create something that is most useful for your teaching situation, go for it!
Traveling Trunks
Traveling Trunks are now ready to be checked out. All you have to do is email Cara at cara_ward@pender.k12.nc.us. I will bring the trunk to you, you can keep it for 2 weeks, and then I will come pick it back up. Easy! You can also check them out over the summer to plan for next year. The 4 trunks relate the time period 1607-1818: American Indians, Colonial Era, American Revolution, and Founding Era. For a list of trunk contents, visit the following link: http://www.teachingamericanhistorync.org/Pages/travelingtrunks.html
Good luck with the end of the school year!
