On Feb. 1, 1960, in Greensboro, NC four black youths decided to sit down at a segregated diner and subsequently launched a series of "sit ins" that swept the South and in part launched the civil rights movement.
The "Greensboro 4," Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil, Ezell Blair Jr. and David Richmond were all freshmen at North Carolina A&T State University at the time. Two of the four, Major General Joseph McNeil and Franklin McCain will be on hand to speak and answer questions at UNCW on Feb. 9 at Kenan Auditorium, 7:00 pm. The event is FREE and open to the public.
In year three of our Teaching American History grant we will tour the Woolsworth diner where the "four" sat down and changed history!
